Salina moves to 5-1 with win over Wyandotte

WYANDOTTE, OK — Senior running back Jon Parsons ran for three scores to help Salina overcome Wyandotte 28-7 Friday night and improve to 5-1 on the season.

Parsons rumbled into the end zone from 53 yards out to open the scoring in the first quarter for Salina (3-0 District 2A-8), which missed the playoffs in 2012 due in part to an 18-15 loss at the hands of the Bears. Salina got a measure of revenge on Wyandotte's home field Friday.

Parsons scored on a seven-yard run in the second quarter and punched in the ball from a yard out in the fourth quarter to give the Wildcats a 28-7 lead.

Senior running back Damon Gourd added a 25-yard run in the third quarter before Wyandotte (3-3, 1-2 2A-8) finally got on the board, thanks to a 20-yard pass from quarterback Gunner Hudson to reciever Seth Shettlesworth.

The Salina defense is allowing just 11 points per game through three district games, and has allowed just 7.8 points per contest in five straight wins since its 29-8 season-opening loss to rival Locust Grove.

Salina should be able to keep that number low next week when 0-6, 0-3 Hulbert comes to visit. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday.
