Four home runs fuel Tigers past Durant

PRYOR, OK — Nate Wolfe homered twice, Spencer Henson smacked a grand slam and Pryor rode the long ball to a 14-7 demolition of Durant Tuesday.

Wolfe hit a three-run shot in the third inning and added a two-run bomb in the fourth to help the Tigers (13-6) overcome an early 5-0 deficit to District 5A-4 foe Durant.

"With our guys being so young, we're not a power team," Wolfe said. "We just try to get base hits, but if it falls in our favor, then what happens, happens. We have very talented hitters on our team, and it goes that way sometimes."

Brennon Barth hit the first of four Tiger home runs, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. Bradley Nixon walked and Henson singled to put runners at first and second for Wolfe's first long ball of the day.

"See ball, hit ball. That's what I try to do when I get up," Wolfe said.

Wolfe's shot brought Pryor to within 5-4. Two RBI singles off the bats of Tyler Arnold and Barth gave the Tigers their first lead of the game, 6-5, after three innings.

Durant tied the contest at 6 in the top of the fourth inning, but Pryor detonated for eight runs in the bottom of the inning to roar ahead of Durant.

After a Henson lead-off walk, Wolfe put another pitch over the right-field wall for his second homer of the day and the third of his career — all of which have come against the Lions.

By the time the lineup rolled back around to Henson, the bases were loaded and Henson blasted a grand-slam to complete the Tigers' home-run cycle (solo, two-run, three-run and grand slam).

Pryor homered off of three different Durant pitchers Tuesday and racked up 29 runs on 34 hits to sweep the season series and improve to 7-1 in the district.

"Good win for us. Sweeping them in district is big," Pryor head coach Gerald Osborne said. "It gives us a chance to be the district champion, which is our goal."

Anthony Martinez got the start for Pryor and pitched 2 1/3 innings of a no-decision, allowing five runs, four walks and four hits.

Conley Ledoux (4-0) relieved Martinez in the third inning and earned the win, striking out four Lions and giving up two runs on four hits.

"We didn't pitch well through the first innings, but Conley came in and did a good job," Osborne said. "He slowed it down and gave us a chance."

Pryor will play the third game of a four-game homestand Thursday against non-district opponent Skiatook at 5 p.m. before hosting Springdale (Ark.) Har-Ber Friday at 5 p.m.
