LGI Semis: Pirates, Cardinals into final

LOCUST GROVE, OK — Locust Grove sophomores Zack Robinson and Mason Fine helped lead Locust Grove to a 66-36 victory over county foe Chouteau to clinch a spot in the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational championship game.

Robinson and Fine led all scorers with 17 points apiece. Robinson did most of his damage by driving inside, while Fine hit four shots from downtown.

Chouteau junior Trenton Pierce returned to Locust Grove to play his former team for the first time Friday. Pierce found himself in early foul trouble, which resulted in a cold first half, but ended his night with seven points. Freshman Champ Bridges led the Wildcats with nine points and Isaac Carter put up eight.

Chouteau (6-3) will play Cascia Hall Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in a battle for third place. The Pirates (6-1) will try to snare their own tournament’s title Saturday at 8:30 p.m. against Class 3A No. 3 Verdigris.

Lady Pirates blast Cascia, eye Verdigris

LOCUST GROVE — The Locust Grove Lady Pirates jolted into the Locust Grove Invitational championship, handling Cascia Hall 69-55 in a tournament semifinal Friday.

Junior Madison Davis took the spotlight with 24 points to lead all scorers. Davis also pulled in six rebounds and blocked two shots. Kennedy Sokoloski scored 15 points and Bailey Holman racked up 11.

Cascia Hall’s Kennedy Cox led the Lady Commandoes with 17 points.

The Lady Pirates (6-1) will join their male counterparts in eyeing a Bank of Locust Grove Invitational title Saturday night, but both will face a stiff opponent in Verdigris. The Class 4A No. 10 Lady Pirates and Class 3A No. 3 Lady Cardinals will square off at 7 p.m.

Verdigris edges Salina for title berth

LOCUST GROVE — Salina’s Lady Wildcats came up just short of a Bank of Locust Grove Invitational championship appearance, falling to Class 3A No. 3 Verdigris 69-59 in a semifinal Friday.

Salina (3-5) never led in the contest, but managed to keep pace with the Lady Cardinals and were down five points with as little as a minute to play.

Courtney Condit led the Lady Wildcats with 26 points and Morgan Littlefield posted 13. Verdigris’ Baileigh O’Dell stole the show with 27 points, including 19 in the first half.

Salina freshman point guard Shaylee Morgan saw her first action of the year after sitting out the early part of the season with an injury. She scored nine points.

Salina will get a shot at third place Saturday at 4 p.m. against Cascia Hall.
