LG sweeps opening round of invitational

LOCUST GROVE, OK — The Locust Grove Lady Pirates stung Westville, 56-21, Thursday night in the opening round of the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational Tournament.

Locust Grove improved to 5-1 on the season and advanced to a semifinal match-up with Cascia Hall Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Sophomore Karson Maple, in the starting lineup for the first time this season, led all scorers with 15 points. Maple drained three shots from beyond the arc and did her work on defense with two steals.

Locust Grove squad forced 22 steals as team. Bailey Holman was the leading pickpocket with five steals. The Lady Pirates shut out Westville in the second period (14-0) and never allowed more than eight points in a period.

'Zac Attack' boosts Pirates

LOCUST GROVE — Locust Grove began the Locust Grove Invitational Tournament Thursday by thumping the Fort Gibson junior varsity squad, 73-33.

The Pirates (5-1) were powered by the "Zac Attack" — sophomores Zach Bailey and Zack Robinson. Bailey led all scorers with 12 points and Robinson posted 11. The duo also combined for 10 rebounds and five steals.

The victory boosts the Pirates into the semifinal round to take on county foe Chouteau in a late-night showdown Friday at 8:45 p.m.
