Hoops: LG girls enter poll

LOCUST GROVE, OK — Riding a 52-46 upset win over Vinita, the Locust Grove girls muscled their way into the Class 4A state basketball poll at No. 17, per OSSAArankings.com.

The Lady Pirates wrapped up a 4-0 homestand to start the season and will hit the road for the first time at No. 1 Fort Gibson Jan. 3.

The Locust Grove boys, also 4-0, checked in at No. 15 — seven spots lower than their preseason ranking — despite not having a blemish on their schedule.

Holding sway at No. 1 in the 3A girls rankings is Adair (5-0), which claimed 29 of a possible 39 first-place votes. The Lady Warriors will open the Tournament of Champions today at the Oral Roberts Mabee Center.

The Adair boys stayed in the top 20 at No. 17. The Warriors are 4-1 and will next hit the court Jan. 6 at Wyandotte.

The Chouteau boys (4-2) fell from the rankings after cracking the top 20 at No. 18 in Class 2A last week.
