PCRC swim team competes in Kansas

Members of the Pryor Creek Recreation Center swim team competed in the Taran Sack Memorial Swim Meet in Parsons, Kan. Saturday and Sunday.

Team members competing were Dori Ware, Abby Peters, Cory Helmuth, Mitchell Pappe, Emily Pippin, Savanna Huddleston, Ethan Markle, Rio Taylor, Alan Smith and Alex Smith.

Ware took first in the 10-and-under division, 50-yard freestyle with a time of 36.26.

Huddleston swam a 38.27 to place fifth in the B division.

Markle took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 38.07. Pappe was third in the same event with a time of 41.20.

Alex Smith took five of six events to win the high point award in the

13-14-year-old division.

Peters took third place with a 35.04 clocking in the B division. She also placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:24.89 time.

In boys 15-18-year-old division, Helmuth took a fourth place in the

50-yard freestyle with a 31.74 time.

Alan Smith took first with a 24.46 clocking in the 50 free. Alan Smith also won all events except the 50-yard breaststroke which he placed second.

Pippin took eighth place with a time of 38.46 in the B division.

Taylor took third in the A division of the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.55. Helmuth was fourth with a

finish of 1:19.67. Pappe was seventh with a time of 1:52.77.

Ware took second place in the

50-yard butterfly with a time of 46.04, second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 49.74 and sixth place in the 100 IM.

Helmuth also swam in the 50-yard backstroke and took fourth place in the B division. Pippin took eighth in the 50 back with a time of 47.37. Pappe was eighth as well, swimming a 1:00.12.

Taylor took second in the 50-yard fly with a time of 29.02.

Rio Taylor took 2nd in the 50 fly in 29.02.

The team will next compete in Webb City, Mo.

“The kids that competed at this meet did real well and I can't be

happier with the improvement that they have made. The league we are in is tough and the reason for the different divisions is for swimmers of the same caliber to swim against each other. These kids will swim against others from Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas,” said coach Brian Smith.
