Shinn at 3 p.m.: Stoops sees benefit to additional grad assistants

NORMAN — Oklahoma's coaching staff is quickly filling up with former players. Joe Jon Finley recently joined fellow former players Derrick Strait and Joey Halze as graduate assistants on the staff. Former center Jon Cooper is currently a student assistant.

Adding the former players wouldn't be possible unless the NCAA had changed the graduate assistant limit for this season. College coaching staffs are now allowed four GAs, which is double the prior amount.

"It helps a ton," OU coach Bob Stoops said. "More than anything, it allows you to bring them along as coaches, so there's a bigger pool when opportunities come for guys to be better prepared for other jobs. It also just allows you to have more people, whether it's working with scout teams or hands-on with your players. We deal with a lot of players. It just helps with more eyes and people in their ears."
