Born December 12, 1934 in Claremore, the oldest of eleven children born to Pete and Kay (Clifton) Ice, she was reared and educated in her birth community. Being the eldest came with much responsibility and she began to help with the care of her brothers and sisters at a very young age. This prepared her for a life-long career as a homemaker and mother of her own three children.
When Vernnon wasn’t busy taking care of her family, she enjoyed traveling, playing gin rummy and poker. Another favorite past time was attending horse races, where she boasted that she never left the track without breaking even. This devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend leaves a legacy of memories to her beloved family.
Those that survive are her children Michael Vernnon and wife Sandra of Lake Eufaula, Lonnie Vernnon and wife Lisa of Wakefield, Kan, Lucinda Vernnon-Maddux and husband Ray of Salina; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Buck, Leonard, Walter and Pete; sisters Anna, Norma, Linda and Edith. Vernnon was preceded in death by her mother Kay Ice, sister Mary Letterman and brother Larry Ice.
