Zelma Lee Phillips

ADAIR — Funeral services for Zelma Phillips, 79, Locust Grove are 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Locust Grove Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Blair will officiate with burial following at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. Viewing is from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove.

Phillips was born March 22, 1932 in Pryor to Charles M. and Ethel M. (Lamascus) Larkin. She grew up in various places and was raised in and around the businesses that her parents owned; this is where she received her interest for working with the public. She graduated from high school in Gentry, Ark.

She and Kenneth Phillips were married in January of 1952 in Jay. She was employed at Boeing Aircraft of Wichita, Kan., Douglas Aircraft of Tulsa and was a clerk for several businesses in Locust Grove. She worked as the secretary for the Locust Grove High School principal for nine years and as the Locust Grove Town Treasurer for 14 years. She spent four years working in the Salina High School Counselor’s office before she retired.

Phillips was a member of the Locust Grove Freewill Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #3573 and life member of the National Home. She and her husband Kenneth were charter members of the Lakes Area Campers since 1967.

Phillips was an arts and crafts lover and taught ceramics to senior citizens in the area.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Phillips and wife Peggy of Hot Springs, Ark., David Phillips and wife Kay of Locust Grove; five grandsons, Jerome Phillips and wife Deanna of Bossier City, La., Damian Phillips and wife April of Bossier City, La., Jerrett Phillips and wife Ana of Broken Arrow, David Phillips and wife Amanda of Locust Grove and Nicholas Phillips of Locust Grove; one granddaughter, Katrina Phillips-Rush and husband Jerry Jr. of Peggs; 11 great-grandchildren and one brother Pete Larkin of Catoosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant daughter, Zelda, one son Darrell Phillips, one granddaughter, Tisha Phillips and two sisters, Betty and Lorine.
