Obituary- Smith

Marilyn Jean Smith, 65, Locust Grove, died Thursday, Aug. 22. Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Key Funeral Home in Pryor. Arrangements are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.

Smith was born on Oct. 5, 1947, in Pryor, to Norman Gene and JoAnn (Grigg) Moody. She grew up and attended school in Tulsa and Locust Grove. She graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1967. She moved to Fullerton, Calif., in 1968 where she worked in the banking industry. She married Lonnie D. Smith on Aug. 16, 1969, in Las Vegas. They made their home in Temecula, Calif., where they own and operate a successful construction business. She worked with her husband, running the office as the secretary, keeping things organized and helping to keep projects running smoothly; she loved helping him take care of the business.

The couple had two sons and family was so important to her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, fishing and going to casinos. She loved coming home to Oklahoma to visit her family several times a year, especially at Christmas. She spent special time with her nieces and nephews. She had an infectious smile and laugh and loved having fun, but most of all she enjoyed caring for her family; they all knew they could always count on her for anything.

The Smiths moved to Oklahoma about 15 months ago when she became ill, but still maintained their life and friends in California from afar.

She is survived by her husband Lonnie of the home; two sons, Mark Alan Smith and Matthew Dee Smith both of California; one sister, Connie Hallmark of Locust Grove; one brother, James Moody of Locust Grove and several special nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
