Elva Clarence “J.R.” Conner, 87, Broken Arrow, died Saturday, April 26. He was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Chelsea, son of the late
Elva Clarence and Minnie Eva (DeArmond) Conner. J.R. was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from Georgia Pacific. He was a member of Tulsa Baptist Temple. Fishing was probably his favorite pastime. Not only could he catch fish, but he was known for putting on the best fish fries. In the summer he was known for his gardening, in the wintertime people enjoyed his Christmas lights.
J. R. was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by one son, Don Conner and Donna of Broken Arrow; daughter Cheryl Hawks and husband, Keith of Pryor; step-daughter, Tosha McDugle of Broken Arrow; eight grandchildren, Travis Conner, Heath Cagle, Chase Conner, Lyndsay Stuber, Robert Schooley, Brad Davis, Stephanie Pope and David Chain; 12 great-grandchildren and his special friend Frances Cunningham. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, in the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home in Tulsa. Private interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
