Dorothy L. Packard, 88, Pryor, died Friday, May 17.
Born in Loy, Ark., June 27, 1924, to D.H. and Ona Whorton, she moved to Oklahoma as a young girl to the family farm on the Grand River between Locust Grove and Chouteau.
She married Louis M. Packard on June 1, 1948, and they remained committed to each other throughout their lives.
She helped Louie at Packard Bros. Motor Co. through the years and was active as a young woman in the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Red Cross. Her love for God and the First United Methodist Church was important to her; she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Challenger Class and Walk to Emmaus.
Packard enjoyed bowling and golf in her early years and throughout her life enjoyed a spirited game of bridge with her friends and baking.
Packard is survived by: daughter Brenda Packard Lewis of Tulsa, son Bill Packard and wife Jane of Tulsa, son Louis Packard Jr. of Pryor; sisters Cleo Sliepcevich of Norman, Nita Eklund of Rancho Mirage, Calif, and brother D.H. Whorton and wife Sue of Springfield, Mo; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Louie Sr., sisters Rena Griffith, LaRue Doss and LaVerne Watkins, brother J. D. Whorton; and daughter Diana Fleak.
Visitation is 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday May 21, at Stephens Memorial Chapel. A celebration of her life is
2 p.m. Wednesday May 22, at First United Methodist Church of Pryor. Rob Harris, Becki Hawkins and Bill Packard are officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel. In lieu of other remembrances donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church.
