Obituary- Edward Ben McCollough

Edward Ben McCollough, 83, Pryor,  died Thursday, Feb 28, in Owasso. He was born on June 28, 1929 in Vinita. He is the son of Ben McCollough and Nettie Byrnice (Hudson) McCollough. After graduation Ben attended school for a year at OBU in Shawnee, and then six years at TU graduating with a degree in Business Management. He loved music and taught for three years in the Pryor Public Schools music department. McCollough worked in his dad’s store for six years. Education was always very important to him. He received his Master’s Business of Education Degree from OSU. He taught for 11 years at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) at Edmond. In the fall of 1979, he started teaching at RSU and taught for over 14 years, retiring in 1993.  He loved to travel abroad and did so 14 times. He was a US delegate for Int’l Society traveling to Marnz, Germany, Toronto, Canada, Bern and Switzerland.  He also traveled to Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, many times, teaching himself German, Vienna and Austria, but his favorite places were Berlin and Hungary behind the iron curtain. He loved music, especially opera, LoBohem, Madam Butterfly and De Fledermaus. He was an intelligent, adventurous, kind man who touched so very many lives.

Funeral Services for Edward will be held on Monday, March 4, at 2 p.m., in the Shipman’s Funeral Chapel with Dr. Mike Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Honorary casket bearers are Monroe Sullivan, Hershel Gaither, John Wilkerson, Jack Matthews, Conard Lee Gaither II, Haskell Lee Gaither, Larry Lees, Bob Lair and the First Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class. He is survived by two cousins, Ann Hayes and Bill McCollough; six second cousins, Conard Lee Gaither II, Carla Sue Jeffrey, Betsy Ann Gaither, Hershal Lee Gaither and Ronda Kay Brown; many other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nettie McCollough.
