Obituary: Wayne Mills

Memorial Services for Wayne Mills, 64, Pryor, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Pryor.  Becki Hawkins will officiate with services entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel.

Mills was born Feb. 19, 1948 in Lindsay to Fred and Oleta (Cook) Mills.  He died Sept. 30 in Stillwater.

Mills graduated from Lindsay High School with the class of 1966. He then attended OSU and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in 1970. Mills had lived in Pryor since 1971.  He worked for the State of Oklahoma for 39 years.  He started working for them in Stillwater, and then came to work at Whitaker State Children’s Home. Mills finished his career with the state working for GRDA and was a Hydro Tech II at the time he retired. He was a veteran serving with the Army National Guard, during the Viet Nam War.  Mills was married to Kellianne Lowrey Hedger on Sept. 22 in Eureka Springs, Ark.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and also volunteered at the Pryor Ministry Center. Mills was part of the Oklahoma State Alumni Association.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an OSU fan. Mills loved family activities especially skeet shooting with his grandson.

Mills is survived by wife Kelli of the home, daughter Laurie White and husband Jay of Pryor, son Jared Mills of Pryor, son Jason Hedger of Colo., son Ryan Hedger and wife Stephanie of Stillwater, grandson Cody Nichols, brother David Mills and wife Lana of Bedford, Texas, brother Phillip Mills of Yukon, sister Jana Gibson and husband Chuck of Elgin, special friend and cousin Joe Stafford and wife Kathy of Elmer, his father-in-law Lyle Sherburne of Tulsa and Charles and Shirley Lowrey, his father-in-law and mother-in-law of Shawnee and other cousins, aunts and uncles.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of other remembrances donations can be made to Pryor Boy Scout Troop, #83 or Pryor Ministry Center.
