Fern B. Scheffel

PRYOR, OK — Funeral services for Fern B. Scheffel, 86,  Pryor, are Thursday at 10 a.m., at Zion Mennonite Church in Pryor. The Rev. Carl Helmuth will officiate with burial following

at Zion Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to

8 p.m., at Key Funeral Home in Pryor. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.

Scheffel was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Lajunta, Colo., to Baldwin and Katie (Hostetler) Miller. She died Sunday, April 14, at her home in Pryor.

She grew up and attended school in rural Mayes County. She and John Everette Scheffel were married on Dec. 6, 1945. They made their home on their farm in rural Pryor since 1949, where she was a homemaker and mother to her three children.

In addition to their own children, they had over 20 foster children in their home over the years. She loved children and she and Everette provided a loving home to those who needed it most.

Scheffel loved everyone she came in contact with and she never had an enemy.

Scheffel was an accomplished baker; she made cakes for all occasions for people all over the county for 40 years. She enjoyed painting, flower gardening and singing.

She loved spending time with her family; she held a special place in the heart of all of her grandchildren and was a wonderful example of unconditional love to them.

She was a longtime member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Adair. She will be fondly remembered for many years to come by all those who shared in her life.

She is survived by her three children, Jonathan Scheffel and wife Bessie of Pryor, Florabell Conrad and husband Ernie of Adair and Twyla Malaefoou and husband Solomone of Pryor; five grandchildren, Susan Martin, Matthew Conrad, Jacob Scheffel, Jeremy Scheffel and Jessica Scheffel; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents,

her husband and four brothers.
