Calvin Leroy Snell was born Jan 5, 1934, in Roger Mills County, to Jesse Louis and Etola Lee (Barker) Snell. He died Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Rose, at the age of 79.
Snell grew up and attended school near Holly, Colo. His family moved to Oklahoma sometime in the late 1940s and he went on to graduate from Oaks Mission in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army. On Jan. 28, 1956, in Locust Grove, the former Norma Jean Plumlee and Calvin Leroy Snell were united in marriage by Rev. Ray Gwartney. The couple had been married for over 49 years when Norma preceded her husband in death on May 27, 2005.
Snell and his family lived in Catoosa for several years before settling in Rose in 1979. He worked for Rockwell International and Spartan Aeronautics for some time. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and had worked most of his life as a truck driver. He was very good at tinkering on farm equipment, cars, and pretty much anything that needed to be fixed. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Snell is survived by two sons, Calvin Dale Snell of Rose and Scott Snell of Rose; one daughter, Dee Ann Rake of Rose; three grandchildren, Emmy Jackson of Texas, Jesse Lee Rake of Lawton, and Cody Lynn Snell of Rose; one great-grandson, Klinton LeRoy Rake; one sister, Joy Ann Monroe and husband Leon of Collinsville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Leach. Rev. Ray Gwartney and Brother Shawn Bates officiated. Interment followed at Elm Cemetery in Leach.
