Emma May (May L) Owens

Emma May (May L) Roberts Bialiy Franklin Lankton Owens was born May 21, 1928 in Pryor, to James Holly “Bunk” Roberts and Marie Laura Smedly. She died March 23, at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek, Springfield,

Mo., after a brief illness.

Owens and her twin sister, Etta Lee, were two of eight children born to Roberts and Smedley, and the second set of twins. She spent her early years in Mayes County and in 1944 she went to Long Beach, Calif., to live with an older sister.

She was not lucky in love. Her first two marriages ended in divorce. She met “the love of her life,” Joe Lankton in 1963. They were married June 5, 1963, and moved to Washington. Lankton died Sept. 5, 1966. Owens returned to California and worked for many years for Mayfair Supermarket in Hanford.

She met Rex “Gene” Owens and they were married on July 18, 1971. In 1980, they moved to Hickory County, Mo., where they bought a farm. In 1986 they sold the farm and moved to Springfield and she went to work for Westlake Hardware.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Finley, Frank and James “Bud” Roberts; sisters Etta Lee Tucker, Alice Dunn and Martha Miesner; and husbands Walter Bialiy, Pat Franklin, Joe Lankton and Gene Owens.

She leaves behind her children John Franklin, Springfield Mo.; Gail Stepka of New Jersey and Barry Bialiy of New Jersey; brother Reed Roberts of Sonora, Calif.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be handled by Greenlawn Funeral Home and Internment will be

at Graham Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
