Obituary- Mitchell

PRYOR, OK — Funeral services for Jennings Mitchell, 92, Pryor, are 2 p.m. Monday, May 12,  at First Baptist Church, Locust Grove.  Burial will follow at Hogan Cemetery, Locust Grove.  Pastor Mark Hester will officiate. Services are under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel.

Mitchell was born Sept. 18, 1921 in Locust Grove to Cal J. and Maude (Foreman) Mitchell.  He died May 7,  in Pryor.

He was a lifetime resident of Mayes County, He graduated from Locust Grove High School with the class of 1940.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1945. He was married to Wanda Garton on June 13, 1943 in Tulsa.  He was a construction engineer for Southwestern Power Administration from 1946 to 1980.  After he retired from S.P.A. he started Mitchell Surveying & Land Company, specializing in power line construction. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church, Locust Grove.  He was very active at the church and enjoyed working and volunteering there. He liked watching  St. Louis Cardinals  baseball, hunting, fishing and setting out trot lines.  He enjoyed getting to travel to Colorado.

Mitchell is survived by his wife Wanda of the home; two daughters Beverly Mitchell and Karen Sue Beck all of Pryor; grandson Jason Mitchell of Pryor; one great-grandson Jett Jennings Mitchell of Owasso; two nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Hiram, Calvin and George; one infant brother and one infant sister, Rachel.

The family will receive relatives and friends  from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Stephens Memorial Chapel.
