Obituary- Hauser

Sanford (Sandy) Hauser, 81, formerly of Pryor, died July 30, in Anchorage, Ala. Hauser was a decorated veteran of the Korean War and did two tours in Vietnam. He retired after serving 26-years in the military.

Hauser was a familiar face at all Disabled American Veterans fundraisers in Pryor. He was a Service Officer with the DAV and assisted many veterans with the paperwork required by the VA and drove the DAV van for a number of years. He was active in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Elks Lodge.

Hauser lived over 30-years in Alaska. After his retirement from the service he was the Director of Operations for Greater Anchorage, Inc., and later became the Executive Director of the Armed Forces YMCA. He was a member of the Anchorage Bicentennial Commission, the Mabel T. Cavalry Senior Center, State Director of Good Sam Club, and an active member of the Masonic Lodge.

After treatment for cancer, he returned to Alaska in June, 2012, to live with his daughter. He overcame cancer only to slip on the ice in January causing spinal injuries which paralyzed him and led to his death of pneumonia.

Hauser is survived by daughter Cellany Hauser, of Wasilla, Ala; a sister-in-law, Ann Sitz of Broken Arrow; and two nieces, Rose Colli and June D’Amato of Florida. He was preceded in death by one son, Howard Lynn Hauser; parents; and two sisters.

Graveside services are 1 p.m., Sept. 14, at  Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
