Graveside services for Erma Ruth Briggs, 87, Pryor, are 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at Lone Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 2 at Key Funeral Home in Pryor. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.
Erma Ruth (Morgan) Briggs was born on March 25, 1926 in Chelsea to Joseph Wreck and Mary Elizabeth (McVicker) Morgan. She died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Claremore.
She grew up and attended school west of Adair at the South Branch School and was raised in the Chelsea area. She was married to Louis H. Briggs on July 28, 1942 in Vinita and had five children. They made their home in Pryor where they both worked for Whitaker State Children’s Home. She was a house mother and he worked as a house dad and security officer. They worked there until it closed then she transferred to Hissom Memorial in Sand Springs and he transferred to Rader Institute. They retired in 1984.
After retiring, she loved working in her flower gardens, doing crafts and spending lots of time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children Pricilla Fisher and husband Ronnie of Grand Lake, Leslie Briggs and wife Debbie of Claremore, Louis Wayne Briggs and wife Dee Ann of Pryor and David Briggs and wife Cindy of Pryor; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two nephews Gary Morgan and Ronnie Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis in May 2012; one son Larry Glenn Briggs; two brothers; and one sister.
