Funeral services for Eugenia “Jeanie” Nichols Kerr, 79, Pryor, are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Lakeview Baptist Church in Salina. The Rev. Bob Belew will officiate. Graveside services are at 3 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.
Kerr was born July 16, 1932 in Winnsboro, La. to Burress and Dorthula (Welch) Nichols. She grew up and attended school in Winnsboro, La. graduating from high school in 1950. She moved to Little Rock, Ark. where she attended nursing school for three years. She and James Whitfield Kerr Jr. were married on July 2, 1952 in Ft. Smith, Ark., and from their union came three children. They made their home in Midwest City where she worked as a nurse in various hospitals. She made a huge contribution in the opening of the first family medical clinic in Oklahoma City and was accepted into the first Family Nurse Practitioner School at the University of Oklahoma. She worked for Dr. Nassr in Oklahoma City as a family nurse practitioner for seven years before moving to Pryor. After moving to Pryor, she worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a nurse practitioner and was in charge of five counties. She retired in 1998.
Kerr was a huge OU football fan, held season tickets to all the home games for years and enjoyed attending the games with friends and family. Kerr was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a positive attitude and her smile was contagious. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Ann Larson and husband Dick of Muskogee and Lynn Kerr of Oklahoma City; one son, Kenneth Kerr of Tulsa; one granddaughter, Kristen Kerr of Oklahoma City; one great-grandson, Landon Peters of Oklahoma City; one sister Doris Lewis of The Woodlands, Texas; one brother, William Nichols and wife Linda of Lovelady, Texas and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant son, John David Kerr and two brothers, Percy and Herbert Nichols.
