Obituary- Frances Sanford

Frances C. Sanford was born on May 18, 1916, in Arkoma, to Jason Monroe and Laura M. (Knight) Coger.  She died Sunday, December 16, in Chouteau, at the age of 96.

Growing up, Sanford attended Graham School.  On August 1, 1936, Frances and Walen H. Sanford were united in marriage. Her husband, Walen preceded her in death on June 29, 1986.  They had been married for over 49 years. She owned and operated Sanford Florist, the first flower shop in Locust Grove.  Above all, she was a dedicated homemaker.      

Sanford was a devoted Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove.  She held the title as Sunday School teacher for many years. She stayed very active in the church and even attended church camps to help things run smoothly.  She loved to cook for her family and any church function.  At the recent centennial celebration of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church, she received a certificate for being the oldest living member of the church.  She loved to crochet, quilt, sew and make crafts of any kind.  She was a diligent homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many people throughout the community. She loved to be outside tending to her yard or garden.  She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Sanford is survived by: 1 daughter: Kay Parker and husband Dale of Locust Grove;

1 daughter-in-law: Wanda Sanford of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren: Karla Stokes and husband Greg of Salina, Tisha Brown and husband Kevin of Locust Grove, Eric Sanford and wife Jennifer of Locust Grove, and Jared Parker and wife Monica of Locust Grove; 9 great grandchildren: Dayton Brown, Jesse Stokes, Nathan Brown, Gracie Sanford, Pacie Parker, Jenna Stokes, Kaysen Brown, Maxim Parker, and Jonah Parker; 3 sisters: Luree Satterfield, Cleo Storie, and Hazel Martin.

Sanford was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; 1 son: W.H. Sanford, Jr.; 4 brothers: Marvin Coger, Monroe Coger, Otto Coger, and Clyde Coger; and 1 sister: Sophie Stone. Funeral services were held 2 p.m , Wednesday, December 19, at the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove. The Rev. James Duffell and Reverend Jess Dinsmore officated.  Interment followed at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove.  Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.  To may leave thoughts, memories, or condolences at www.locustgrovefuneralhome.com.
