A memorial service for Leon Koster is 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Visitation is 12 p.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the funeral home. Koster died Friday., July 26, 2013. He was 77.
Born Aug. 5 1935 in Worland, Mo. to Joseph Frank and Inez Minnie (Jenkins) Koster, he was reared and educated in several communities before his family moved to Rogers County and he graduated from Sequoyah high school. Later, Koster began working for ONG in Claremore as a meter reader and then with the ONG offices in Tulsa. He began building houses in Claremore.
In 1980 he married Glenda Kay Hart-Hawkins and they made their home in Claremore. In 1985 they moved to Salina and started a trucking business. Koster enjoyed going to the local coffee shop every morning to visit with his friends. Koster is survived by his wife Kay of their home; children Steve Koster of Claremore, Kent Koster and wife Tammy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mitch Koster also of Claremore and Garret Hawkins of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Michael Koster, Kara Koster, Casey Koster, Ryan Koster, Seth Hawkins, Sam Hawkins, Ginny Hawkins and Gerry Hawkins; sister Jean Jones of Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Fern Whorton, Joe Wayne Koster and Lyle Koster.
Services are under the direction of Rice Funeral Home.
