Funeral services for Fred H. Sordahl, Sr., 97, Pryor, are Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Pryor. Pastors Rick Robart and Don Johnson are officiating and burial will follow at Graham Memorial Cemetery, Pryor. Services are under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel.
Sordahl was born May 26, 1916 in Viroqua, Wis. to Fredrick M. and Hilda (Swenson) Sordahl. He died Sept. 19, 2013 in Tulsa.
He lived in Pryor since 1985, he moved here from Illinois. He was married to Doris Bjorge on Oct. 7, 1939 in Waukon, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2006. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with the Combat Engineers. He served in the Philippines, New Guinea and was with the first troops to occupy Japan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he belonged to the Methodist Men and the Methodist Movers. Sordahl worked as an accountant for several years. He taught defensive driving courses for AARP and volunteered his services for people who did not have the funds to do their income taxes.
He is survived by son Fred Sordahl, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Pryor; two daughters SuEllen Hamsing and husband Larry of Streamwood, Ill. and Molly Kaye Zebrowski of Converse, Texas; nine grandchildren Michele, Mike, Jim, Shanna, Amanda, Kristopher, Katrina, Rachel and Sarah; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Edith Eckert of Las Vegas, Nev. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; one son Michael; three brothers Hank, Les and Gordon; one sister Gladys; and one son-in-law Tom Zebrowski.
The family will receive relatives and friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Stephens Memorial Chapel.
