Funeral services for Donna Lee Thompson, 81, Spavinaw, are Thursday, 2 p.m at Spavinaw United Methodist Church. Pastor Lora Stiles will officiate and burial will follow at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel.
Donna Lee Thompson was born August 25, 1931, in Spavinaw to Aud and Verna (Atwood) Nugent. She died December 19, 2012, in Tulsa.
Thompson was a lifetime resident of Spavinaw and graduated from Strang High School with the class of 1949. She retired in 1988 after 25 years of service as social worker for the Delaware County Department of Human Services. She was married to Robert “Moss” Thompson on April 8, 1949, in Bentonville, Arkansas; he preceded her in death on January 21, 2001. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and gardening. Her greatest joys in life were her family, her friends, and singing while Moss played guitar.
Thompson is survived by son Rob Thompson and wife Trish; daughter Lisa Hopkins and husband Sonny; daughter Terri Ralph and husband Jim; eight grandchildren: Chrissy Thompson, Izzy Tipton, Josh Turner, Casey Hardison, Daubs Thompson, Bubba Hopkins, Nate Dykes, and Cory Dykes; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Denise, one brother and one sister.
In lieu of other remembrances donations can be made to the Spavinaw United Methodist Church.
