Julia Ann Williams was born Jan 1, 1911, in Adair County near Watts, to John Graham and Maggie Mae (Kerr) Thompson, the third of six children. She died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in Ft. Smith, Ark., at the age of 102.
She grew up in the Spring Creek area and attended Lucky school. On June 1, 1929, Julia Ann Thompson and Talmage Williams were united in marriage. Talmage preceded his wife in death on March 29, 1985. The couple had been married for over 56-years.
She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and studied the Bible with the Witnesses. She was baptized on Nov. 18, 1961, giving over 51-years of dedication to serve Jehovah. She worked for some time at Foreman’s Clothing in Locust Grove.
She loved to grow and tend to her flowers. She loved her family and treasured the time spent with them. Williams was currently living in Van Buren, Ark., but had been a resident of the Locust Grove Community for many years.
Williams is survived by two daughters, Lois Doyle and husband Wayne of Tahlequah and Donna Hoelcel and husband Wayne of Van Buren, Ark; eight grandchildren, Barbara Cole of Cleveland, Sherrie Dawson of Locust Grove, Terri Knott of Pryor, Darrell Doyle of Pryor, Keith Williams of Collinsville,
Brady Williams of Kansas City, Kan., Wade Hoelcel of Tacoma, Wash., and
Rachel Culp of Van Buren, Ark; 12 great grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Williams was preceded in death by three sons, Jim Williams in 1988 at age 58, Park Williams in 2006 at age 63, and Bud Williams in 2010 at age 77; one granddaughter, Shiela Williams in 1982 at age 18; grandsons, Larry Doyle in 1990 at age 36 and Jimmy “Junior” Williams in 2006 at age 49; three brothers, Fred Thompson in 1948 at age 42, Jim Thompson in 1994 at age 81, and Claude Thompson in 1997 at age 80; and two sisters, Pearl Lewis in 1956 at age 48 and Bertha Gore in 1994 at age 80.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. June 9, 2013, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are 2 p.m. June 10, 2013, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel. Ken McIntosh will serve as the speaker with interment following at New Home Cemetery in Peggs.
