Cherokee Nation Dec. events

Tahlequah — Find some great Christmas gifts with items from Cherokee-owned businesses, or take a homebuyer’s course this month. The Cherokee Nation is hosting various events in December that offer something for everyone. Check the calendar listing below:

 Dec. 10

6 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meets in the Tribal Council Chambers at the W.W. Keeler Complex, 17675 S. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah.

This is the deadline to adopt an angel from the Cherokee Nation Angel Tree program and return gifts. The tribe has more than 1,900 Cherokee children applying for warm clothes and gifts this season. Angels can be picked up in the lobby of the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah, in Cherokee Nation health centers or by contacting Cherokee Nation Angel Tree organizers at 918-453-5000 ext. 7730.

Dec. 11

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Cherokee Nation employees and invited guests can stop by the Tribal Council Annual Christmas Open House and Social at the Tribal Council House and enjoy food, fun and fellowship.

1 p.m. – Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson has its grand opening to celebrate its new facility.

Dec. 12

Cherokee Nation Tag Offices will be closed at all locations for staff development.

Dec. 12-13

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Housing Authority is hosting a two-day homebuyer’s education class at the Housing Authority offices in Sallisaw. The course is designed to teach homebuyers about the process. Participants will learn about mortgage terminology, filling out mortgage applications, property insurance, affordable home buying, protecting their investment and more. Dec. 17-18

3 p.m. to 10 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Housing Authority is hosting a two-day homebuyer's education class at the Housing Authority office in Claremore. For more information contact Rita Wheeler at 918-456-5482 ext. 256 or Terri Crow at 918-456-5482 ext. 238.

Dec. 18-19

3 p.m. to 10 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Housing Authority is hosting a two-day homebuyer’s education class at the Housing Authority offices in Tahlequah. For more information contact Rita Wheeler at 918-456-5482 ext. 256 or Terri Crow at 918-456-5482 ext. 238.

Dec. 21

11:30 a.m. – Cherokee Nation main offices and satellite offices will close at 11:30 a.m., with the exception of W.W. Hastings Hospital. The health centers will remain open with fewer staff.

Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1

Cherokee Nation offices and health centers will close for Christmas and New Years Day.
