LG appoints new fire chief

PRYOR, OK — Locust Grove Trustees appointed a new fire chief at the October meeting. Ray Vaughn was named fire chief effective Nov. 1. He has been with the department for 30 years.

Fire Chief Rob Foreman is retiring. His last day on the job will be Oct. 31. Foreman has been with the all volunteer fire department for 37 years.

Vaughn, who was in attendance, presented the fire department report to trustees. The fire department made 60 runs in September and used 90,000 gallons of water.

Trustees approved an expenditure of $212 to Triple B Garage Doors, LLC, for repairs on a truck bay door at the fire station. Vaughn said the damage was just normal wear and tear caused by repeatedly opening and closing the door.

In other business, trustees approved the payment of $5,520 to Certified Public Accountant Justin Cowan, for a recently completed audit.

Payment was approved in the amount of $346 to Terry Cooper Wrecker Service.

Trustees approved a motion directing street and alley laborers to spend their yearly clothing allowance at Sharpe’s Department Store. Employees are given $150 per year toward the purchase of boots, coats or other items necessary for the job. New employees are given $200 their first year.

Trustees directed town attorney Tammy Ward to draft an ordinance that will make Gorda Park a tobacco-free area. Signage for the park will be provided by the Cherokee Nation.
