LG raises starting dispatch wage

PRYOR, OK — The Town of Locust Grove Board of Trustees voted to raise the starting wage for police dispatch in an effort to keep workers.

Previous discussion by board members addressed frustrations at hiring and training dispatchers only to lose them to other agencies that offer a more competitive wage.

Starting dispatchers will now earn $10 per hour.

Trustees voted to increase the wage of John Stanglin who works dispatch at the police department. Stanglin had a 90-day review and is now considered a non-probationary employee. He has recently received his Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System certification, which led to the increase in pay. Stanglin will now receive $11.50 per hour.

Christmas bonuses for town employees were approved at a rate of $75 for part-time and $150 for full-time employees.

In other business, trustees approved an ordinance to declare Gorda Park tobacco free.

Finally, trustees tabled an action to appoint someone to fill the vacancy on the board. Residents Stephen Perry and Brandon Hawkins have made application to be considered for the seat.

The vacancy was created when former trustee Martha Pierce was removed by state statute for excessive absences.
