Pryor Police and Fire Departments responded to a Silver Alert Wednesday after 78-year-old Charles Armes “escaped” from Colonial Terrace Nursing Home.
Reports say Armes left the nursing home around 1:15 a.m. Mayes County Emergency Management and Sheriff's Office assisted in the search and the man was found several hours later, soaking wet from the storms. He was found on Fairland Street, two blocks from the nursing home. Authorities say he was disoriented and confused when they found him but he was otherwise unharmed.
Reports show that Armes has dementia and schizophrenia. Once he was returned to the nursing home, Armes was checked out by a doctor who says he is doing fine.
“I cannot say enough good things about the community, everyone came together to help,” said Jodi Coatney of Colonial Terrace. “The police department, fire department, sheriff’s office and emergency management all helped out. Even construction workers and truck drivers were helping look for him.”
Coatney said she is amazed at the compassion and support for the missing man.
“Mr. Armes is safe and sound. We are very blessed to have everyone’s help,” said Coatney.
