Schiedel tapped for executive director

Claremore — Rogers State University Public TV General Manager Dan Schiedel has been selected as the new executive director of Oklahoma Educational Television Authority, effective Nov. 5.

Schiedel replaces John McCarroll, who announced his retirement earlier this year following nine years as OETA executive director. Schiedel’s last day at RSU will be Friday, Nov. 2. The university has initiated a national search to identify Schiedel’s replacement.

“Dan has provided tremendous leadership for RSU Public TV during the past six years, and those results can be readily seen in the quality of the station’s programming, improvements to the clarity and dependability of the station’s delivery, and the widespread public support he has garnered for the station,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. “He will be missed, but we look forward to working with him in his new role with OETA.”

Schiedel joined RSU in June 2006 following five years of service as general manager for Wyoming Public Television and president of the WPTV Foundation since 2001. He has more than two decades of experience with public television stations in Wyoming, Missouri and South Dakota.

Highlights of his tenure at RSU include overseeing the station’s conversion from analog to digital transmission, helping secure emergency generators for the television station and transmitter to provide power during outages, managing an award-winning staff that has earned two dozen national and regional awards for its original programs and documentaries, and establishing an annual contributing membership base to strengthen the station’s financial position.

As the only full-powered public television station licensed to a public university in Oklahoma, RSU Public TV provides educational, cultural and general interest programming to an audience of 1.3 million viewers in northeastern Oklahoma, and the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU Public TV broadcasts via DISH, DirectTV and UHF Channel 35 and is carried on 76 cable systems including Cox Cable Channel 109 (35.1) and 110 (35.2) in Tulsa and Claremore.
