PRYOR, OK — Pryor City Council member Ronnie Sharp adjourned his last council meeting Tuesday.

Sharp was recognized and thanked for his 18 years of service to the council. The election for the seat was won by Willard Buchanan.

Buchanan was told by the Mayor, city council and city attorney that he cannot hold the position while being employed by a city entity.

Buchanan has been employed by Pryor's Municipal Utility Board for 19 years.

When Buchanan was named winner, he said he intended to fight the restriction saying MUB was a separate entity than the city.

Now that Sharp's term has ended, the seat is vacant.

“Willard will not be seated,” said Mayor Jimmy Tramel. “In 30 days, I will appoint someone.”

Tramel said he has a few ideas, but doesn't want to name names.

“What we're looking for are people who are open-minded and want to see a more involved community and see improvements made in the city. We need someone that wants to do things, like walking trails, bike trails and being more involved online,” said Tramel.

He added that he wants someone who will bring new, fresh ideas to the table.

“We want someone that will do things that need to be done, not just do things because that's how they've always been done. We need someone passionate and proactive,” said Tramel.
