Body found on Earbob Road

— A local fisherman made a call in to the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office Saturday to report a possible dead body on Earbob Road.

Deputies arrived at the scene around 1 p.m. and found the individual in a makeshift tent near the boat ramps. Deputies found a dead person and called  Detective Jason Treat. Treat determined it would be prudent to call in the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist in collecting evidence.

Officials stress that nothing has been confirmed, but they are looking at the possibility that the deceased is Roy Joice, a Locust Grove man about 58 years old. Authorities have requested medical records to confirm the identity and will make no definitive conclusions until those records have been thoroughly reviewed.

The scene suggested the man had been living in the tent on the Corps of Engineers’ land for some time.

The man who made the call frequented the area and was familiar with the deceased as both fished the same area. When the caller did not see the man for a few days, he went to check on him.

Officials believe the individual could have died roughly six days before the body was found on Saturday.

At this time it cannot be determined if the death was from natural causes or foul play, but it will be treated as a homicide until evidence suggests otherwise.
