PRYOR, OK —
At 5:45 p.m. Thursday, despite the inclimate weather, Pryor Police Department responded to a call for assistance at a residence on the south end of Pryor.
According to Officer Lanham, upon arrival they found two adult males with stab wounds.
MESTA was called and the two men were transpoted to a hospital in Tulsa. The two men were able to provide officers with the name and physical description of the attacker as well as a description of his vehicle.
The suspect was identified as Jackie Rogers Jr., a 31-year old male from Pryor.
In the course of the investigation the Pryor Police were informed of an ongoing property dispute between the victims and Rogers.
“Rogers walked into their home and a heated verbal argument began. That escalated quickly and the two men were stabbed,” said Pryor Police officer Kevin Lanham.
Lanham said at that time, based off of the victims’ statements, they applied or and received an arrest warrant.
At 9:11 p.m. the vehicle was spotted, at Harps Grocery Store in Salina.
A Salina police officer approached the vehicle to speak to the suspect.
As the officer approached the window, Rogers slit his own throat.
The officer broke the window, as the doors were locked, and began administering first aid until MESTA arrived.
He was transported by MESTA to St. John’s hospital in Tulsa. Because he is under arrest, a police officer is stationed in his hospital room. Lanham said he could not be lifeflighted because of the weather.
“Right now the main concern is making sure he’s ok,” said Lanham. “The criminal stuff can come later.”
Pending his recovery Rogers will be charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Rogers does have a record in Mayes County that includes; assault and battery with a
dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, shooting with intent to kill and failure to register as a violent crimes offender.
The condition of the two stabbing victims is unknown.
