Langley, Oklahoma — Singer/songwriter Sue Straw of Langley and Grove‚ and celebrity pianist Terry Jordan have returned from Ireland with world-class honors for their performance in Tipperary's historic Excel Theater at the International Song of Peace Competition.
Straw's original song, "Circle The World With Love," chosen as one of the top ten finalists in the competition, was originally written as the theme song for a children's musical of the same name. The song received a second-place ranking, only three points behind the winning song by Lynn Holland of England.
Straw writes and performs inspirational music and children's music. Her children's programs/recordings "Stamp Out Drugs" and "McMeow, The Crime Kitty" have received awards from two Oklahoma Governors. Terry Jordan is a piano recording artist and entertains at Cherokee Yacht Club on Grand Lake. This duo has been performing together since first grade in Nowata, Oklahoma.
The Song of Peace competition is part of the Tipperary International conference of Peace, instituted in 1983. The song, "It's A Long Way ToTipperary" was internationally associated with war, and the founding committee of the Peace Convention felt it was time that the town be associated with "peace." This year is also the 100th anniversary of the song.
Straw and Jordan attended numerous events including the awards banquet for Ireland‚ and former President, Professor Mary McAleese and her husband Senator Martin McAleese, who were this year joint recipients of the 2011 Tipperary International Peace Award.
