Filing dates for the municipal election were approved at a special meeting of the Locust Grove town council Jan. 17.
The filing period will be Feb. 4 to 6. The election for town clerk, vice mayor, and two trustee positions will be April 2. The trustees up for election are Tony McFarland and Brenda Williams.
Terry Cooper and Martha Pierce are not up for election this term. Their terms expire in 2015.
The police, fire, street and alley, and librarian reports were submitted in writing to the council.
The council approved $750, to be taken from the public safety account, to use toward a first responder class to be taught by a state certified paramedic. Ray Vaughn with the fire department said he has 16 men signed up for the course.
The council approved taking $3,000 from public safety toward the workers’ compensation policy for the Locust Grove Police and Fire Departments; $2,730 will go toward the police department and $270 toward the fire department.
The council approved hiring Tyler Brown as a part-time police officer at $12 per hour. Brown works for Grand River Dam Authority and worked for the Inola Police Department. “He’s very productive,” Police Chief Wade Henderson said.
The council approved paying an invoice to InterAct for a maintenance agreement for three patrol car computers. The invoice for $375 is to be taken out of the public safety account.
