PRYOR, OK —
A State Superinten-dent Candidate forum will be held at the Herchel Avra Performing Arts Center at Pryor High School on March 4, at 6:30 p.m. A project of the Junior English classes of Heather Burroughs, students will be asking the candidates questions on current educational issues so that voters may make informed decisions at the ballot box. The public is invited to attend. Five of the six candidates are scheduled to be represented.
This student-led forum will feature students as the moderators, timekeepers, and other roles. Mrs. Burroughs’ students researched topics of eacher retirement, school funding, Oklahoma Academic Standards/Common Core State Standards, and the A-F grading system. The students then created, in small groups, pamphlets about those topics and placed them in local businesses as informational brochures. This allowed the students to practice writing informational text. from research, guarding against bias. The forum will teach the students the importance of these topics to the candiates.
