PRYOR, OK —
In a special meeting over the holidays, the Board of Trustees for the Town of Locust Grove voted to appoint Brandon Hawkins to fill the vacancy on the board.
Hawkins replaced former trustee Martha Pierce, who was removed by state statute citing excessive absences.
Hawkins was present as a voting member at the town’s monthly meeting Monday night.
There is still a vacancy on the board, however, because Trustee Tony McFarland submitted a letter of resignation to the town in December. McFarland gave no reason for his departure, effective immediately. He was not present at the meeting, however, his resignation was recognized and accepted by the board.
The board approved pay increases for two dispatchers and tabled an action to hire another full-time dispatcher.
Debbie Sellers was given a pay increase to $11.50 per hour retroactive to her Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems certification date of Dec. 18.
Kristy Allison, who works part-time, recently received her OLETS certification and was also given a pay increase to $11.50 per hour.
On the agenda was the discussion and possible action to hire a full-time police officer.
Trustee Brenda Williams made a motion to hire John Stanglin, who currently works as a dispatcher and is a non-paid reserve officer for the department. The motion died for lack of a second.
In other business, trustees approved the appointment of resident Steve Perry as the new Flood Plain Administrator. Also approved was Jeanie Norman as the town’s representative to the Grand Gateway Board of Directors for 2014.
Trustees approved hiring Aberdeen Enterprizes for court cost recovery. A collection fee of 35 percent will be added to court penalties, costs, fines and fees to pay for their services.
Library Director Annissa Fleming and employee Quinn Mashewske will attend a workshop regarding the Summer Reading Program in February after trustees approved the motion.
Finally, trustees approved the placement of an ad in local newspapers to announce they are taking applications for a police officer, a dispatch position and an office manager at City Hall.
