PRYOR, OK —
Chouteau is in Spring cleaning mode after their council meeting Monday night.
The board discussed who is in charge of cleaning and repairing storm drains along Highway 69.
Mayor Jerry Floyd said he contacted the state highway department but got no response.
“We may just have to bite the bullet and do it,” said Floyd.
Town attorney, Rep. Ben Sherrer, said he would put his weight behind the issue and see what he could accomplish.
The board discussed several town properties that have received citations for violating city codes. The properties included 209 S. Railroad St., 112 S. Wilder St. and 1001 N. Delaware St. The property owners were given another 30 days to work on cleaning up the property. Up for discussion again were several properties that have been on the council agenda in recent months, 1004 N. Iroquois St., the Sampsel property, West Main Street, West Harrison Street, the Swift property, East Main Street, North Fourth Street, the Rowland property and the James property.
These property owners, who are said to have made progress in their clean-up efforts, were also granted another 30 days.
The town discussed agreements with Pryor Waste and Recycling.
The agreement, described as a trash contract and solid waste agreement between the town of Chouteau and Pryor Waste and Recycling, was renewed with no changes from last year.
“At the last meeting, hearing the struggle of the Chouteau Library and their funds, my heart really went out to them. I'm a local boy and I wanted to help,” said Bill Dinsmore, of Pryor Waste and Recycling. “I would like to furnish five cardboard containers, where people can drop off their cardboard to be recycled. A percentage of the proceeds would to to the Chouteau Library as a donation from us.”
A total of seven dumpsters will be available for Chouteau's annual Trash Off Day, April 26. Pryor Waste and Recycling is furnishing four dumpsters, the county is furnishing two and Bank of Commerce in Chouteau is furnishing one. The dumpsters will be available 8 a.m until 4 p.m., but may close early if they are filled.
