Salina hires new police officer

PRYOR, OK — The Town of Salina approved hiring a new police officer at the October board meeting.

Officer William Jay Milliron was hired at a higher starting wage of $12 per hour after waiving future standard review raises.

The item was discussed in executive session. While in executive session, the board discussed the job performance of Officer Dale Tillotson upon completing two years of employment.

The board approved a wage increase of 50 cents per hour retroactive to his anniversary date of Aug. 29.

Members of the Salina Volunteer Fire Department addressed the board in regard to the report presented at the last meeting offering to answer any questions board members had.

Mayor Mike O’Rourke thanked the department for the in-depth report and said he intends to take a tour of the fire station facility.

“We know you guys work hard out there and we appreciate it,” O’Rourke said. “We are still considering the reinstatement of funds and determined there would be a 60 to 90-day review on the subject.”

Trustees approved an expenditure of $16,629.17 for the renewal on the town’s liability policy. The funds are to be paid quarterly and split with the Public Works Authority.

Trustees approved an action to request a check for the Workers Comp. 2010-2011 Loss Fund refund of $8,261.97 to be equally deposited between the General Fund and the PWA Gross Revenue Fund.

Trustees gave the go-ahead for Librarian Lou Ella Martin to use the library on Saturdays to host events to raise money for the library. There are plans to host an event on Nov. 16 where attendees will learn about the orphanage that burned down in 1903.
