Pryor was selected by the Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training to host the Northeast Regional Fire School this year. Classes will take place the weekends of April 13-14, May 4-5 an May 18-19. The northeast section of the state covers every department north of I-40 and east of I-35.
The courses are free to any firefighter or medic. All certification is through the OSU Firefighter Training in Stillwater.
Just under 300 firefighters and medics are scheduled to journey to Pryor for these courses.
The classes will take place at the Pryor Fire Department, Thunderbird Youth Academy and Northeast Technology Center.
Rogers State University is allowing the use of the parking lot for a portion of the training, their restrooms and a place for the firefighters to change in the instance there is inclement weather. Pryor High School is allowing the use of their parking lot.
The department is using a grant from Wal-Mart to purchase Gatorade and water that will be provided during the classes. Wades Wrecker service provided cars to be used for extrication training. Downing Propane donated 600 gallons of propane for the LPG class. Locust Grove Fire Department is providing an engine and Chouteau is sending their special operations unit to help during the live burns.
Spectators are welcome to observe the outdoor portions of the training from a distance.
Classes for the first weekend include: Calling the MAYDAY, First Responder EMR Refresher, LPG, OSBN Meth Lab Response, WLFF Fundamentals, OSBI Crime Scene Preservation, Rehab for WL Fire Fighting, Cardiology - 12 lead and advanced airways.
The second weekend includes: EVDT, EMS & Rescue Consideration for Ag, Mass Casualty Incident, New Vehicle Technology, Vehicle Extrication Basics, EVDT and Mass Casualty Incident.
The third weekend classes include: Advanced Fire Behavior, First Responder Refresher, OSBN Meth Lab Response, Responding to the MAYDAY, vehicle firefighting, OSBI crime scene preservation, rehab for WL fire fighting, advanced fire behavior, Mass Casualty Incident, OSBN Meth Lab Response, Ez -10 and CPAP, Advanced Airways and Cardiology - 12 lead.
