Misty Edwards, marketing and event coordinator, Roberts Auto Center, has been selected to chair for the 2012 Mayes County “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign. The campaign will take place throughout the month of March, which is American Red Cross Month. The campaign goal is $17,500.
The campaign is a grassroots effort that involves caring and dedicated people, businesses, schools, churches and community organizations who agree to become a Hero to support the local work of the American Red Cross. Each Hero volunteers to raise $1,000 or more through anyway they choose. All money raised locally will stay local to help those suffering after a disaster.
“I am proud to have been asked to chair this year’s “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign,” said Edwards. “I hope everyone will join in and be Heroes. If someone doesn’t think they can do the $1,000 level, I urge them to still please participate.
“Donations of $100 or $250 add up quickly. It is critical that we raise as much as possible to make sure that the Red Cross remains strong, prepared and ready to respond at a moment’s notice when either our community or one of our neighbors experiences a disaster. By working together, we can make this the most successful campaign the Red Cross has ever had in Mayes County,” she said.
In 2011, the local American Red Cross responded to near back-to-back disasters: an historic blizzard, tornadoes, wildfires fueled by record-setting heat, damaging floods and home fires. In the Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center service area that included 98 home fires (an increase of 18 over the previous year) and provided more than $56,100 in financial disaster assistance to help with immediate needs such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.
“We are very pleased that Misty Edwards will be this year’s Mayes County “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign chair,” said Mark Ogle, director, Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center.
“She and Roberts Auto Center are long-time supporters of the Red Cross and have been part of the campaign for several years. She also serves as a member of the Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center board of directors, representing Mayes County. With her leadership and enthusiasm, I am confident that we will have a very successful campaign.”
