ADAIR, OK —
Bernita Hughes Cafeteria was packed Tuesday night for the second annual Education Foundation Dinner. Students, under the direction of Robin DeLozier, served guests a
dinner consisting of salad, bacon-cheddar mashed potatoes, green beans, roast and rolls. Cake bites of lemon, vanilla and chocolate adorned each place setting for dessert.
Nominated for Teacher of the Year were first grade teacher Patty Davis and eighth grade science teacher / baseball coach Eric “Coach Mac” McSlarrow. McSlarrow took the honor. He is described as “a highly effective teacher who uses a hands-on approach to learning.”
Davis was runner-up to the honor. She is described as a “natural born teacher.” Superintendent Tom Linihan presented the awards to the duo.
A silent auction took place during dinner with the winners announced later in the evening.
Live auction items included Google Chrome, donated by Google; Hard Rock Package, donated by Cherokee Casino; Hand Carved Bird Sculpture, donated by Dr. Gary McClure; Money Jar, donated by Fred Taylor Enterprises and Adair Bank of Commerce; and two OU/OSU Football Tickets.
The foundation also awarded a number of grants. Teachers receiving grants were Vicki Anderson, Joy Boston, Kristina Cobler, Kelly Daugherty, Patty Davis, Tina Harris, Andrea Hudson, Sarah Jones, Denise Peters, Frances Pritchett and Amy Wingard.
Grants included several Interactive Overhead Projectors, Microscopes, Summer of Monkeys book, Math Technology, Robotics, Dictionaries, Bundles of Biographies and Technology for Tomorrow.
