The Mayes Emergency Services Trust Authority Board of Directors addressed recent action taken by the county commissioners to terminate the contract with MESTA to provide 911 services to the county.
Chairman Brent Crittenden read a letter from the county commissioners aloud to the board. The letter informed MESTA that the services in regard to the 911 call center were no longer needed.
“...That as of 12 o’clock a.m., March 2, 2014, that being 90 days from the date of this notice, Mayes County will no longer require services for Emergency 911 dispatching from MESTA,” the letter, signed by Chairman Alva Martin, read. “The Board has determined that termination is in the county’s best interest. The Board thanks MESTA for the dispatching services to this point and wishes that we part on good terms.”
The letter also requested that the board acknowledge the contract termination by replying.
The board approved an action “accepting the proposed termination of the contract with Mayes County to provide 911 call taking.” The board instructed that an acknowledgment be sent to Martin.
Also on the agenda was termination of the dispatching contract with Pafford EMS. MESTA has provided dispatching services for the Rogers County emergency agency since 2009 at a cost of $60,000 annually. If Pafford chooses to continue contracting for dispatch services, it must contract with the county.
Board members elected officers, but no changes were made. Brent Crittenden will remain chairman of the board, Kevin Dodson will remain vice chairman and Leon Blankenship will remain secretary/treasurer.
In other business, the board decided to take no action on bids in regard to a Compressed Natural Gas fill station that had been discussed in earlier meetings. Members agreed to table future discussions on the construction of a fill station at the main headquarters for the time being.
Discussion on the matter showed that the total costs on the proposal were much more than originally anticipated. Having submitted a bid, the owners of Go Freedom Fuel were in attendance. The company recently purchased the former Mid America Rental Company building at Highway 69 and Highway 69A (see page 1A).
Board members discussed the grant from the O.D. “Jock” Mayor Foundation for $12,000 toward the proposed fuel station.
They voted to approve having MESTA petition the foundation to allow the grant funds to be used to convert another ambulance unit to CNG.
