MUB lowers rates

Pryor’s Municipal Utility Board approved a decrease in the natural gas rate.

According to their charter, MUB is under no obligation to lower the rates but it’s lowering the rates anyway.

For customers outside the city limits, the rate is decreasing from $8.385 to $7.635 per 1,000 cubic feet. For residents inside Pryor city limits, the rates decreased to $6.335, which is a savings of $1.05 per 1,000 cubic foot.

At the meeting Monday, MUB General Manager Gary Pruett said Homeland grocery store made the announcement it is moving into the old Wal-Mart building.

“We don’t have transformers for that. So we’ll get them ordered,” said Pruett. “They want to be open and selling by Thanksgiving, but it can be up to 26 weeks to order the size and quantity they need so we'll see.”

Rowe Street could see some construction coming soon as waterlines are being installed at the

courthouse. Pruett explained that three separate waterlines, all different sizes, are being installed at the same time. Pryor street department will make the necessary repairs.

Pruett said the city hall project is still ahead of schedule.

“We’re working on putting a furniture package together now. Jimmy [Tramel] and I are going to Tulsa tomorrow to talk to someone who may be able to custom-build work stations,” said Pruett. “We’re asking that a  security system be ordered for our portion. All in all it’s looking good.”

The board discussed bids for network switches for the fiber optic network for the new city hall building. David Schreffler was present to assist Pruett in explaining the

project.

“Essentially we’ve got to get the existing fiber and equipment out of here and to the new city hall,” said Pruett.

A total of four bids were received with the best low bid totaling $76,762.  A wireless Internet network in the new building will prevent guests from accessing the city's secure network.

A motion was made and approved to pay $113,084.07 in claims.
