Park building to be completed

PRYOR — The Park Maintenance crew may soon have a completed building.

The Pryor Budget and Personnel Committee approved recommending council action to seek bids to finish the inside of the maintenance shop at the meeting Tuesday.

This construction would include the office, breakroom, showers, flooring and a storage area above the offices. The work was quoted at approximately $70,000 by Brewer Construction. The money would come out of the park capital outlay fund and all drawings for the work have been approved.

In other business, the committee:

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant the Mayes County Fair Board $5,572.10 for tables to be used at the county fair. Pryor Mayor Jimmy Tramel said a large number of the plastic tables will be purchased to be used at the fairgrounds in following years. He said the tables are used for everything at the fair, including the premium auction.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant the Pryor Band Boosters $2,500 for trophies at band day.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant the Pryor Creek Recreation Center $1,020 for the purchase of bleachers for events at the recreation center. Pryor Creek Recreation Center Director Mary Honea told the committee she has received three bids, but has found two used sets of bleachers in Tulsa which are less expensive than any of the bids. She told the committee the bleachers have three rows, each one can hold 32 people and they can be folded up and stored. Honea said she would like to have the bleachers before the swim meet on Oct. 9.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $2,500 for Cowboy Trader’s Day. Tramel said the event brings a lot of tourists into the area and is helpful for the town.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $2,500 for the Parade of Lights, which is the Christmas parade. Tramel said this event also brings a lot of tourists into the area.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $1,889.93 to the American Legion. Tramel told the committee the money would be used for ceiling and lighting work in the building.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $5,000 to Pryor High School to host the Student Council State Convention. Pryor will be hosting over 2,000 students for the event in November.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $30,000 to the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce for ads and promotions. Tramel told the committee the chamber receives that amount from the board each year.

• Approved recommending council action to approve the recommendation of the hotel/motel board to grant $4,000 to the Pryor High School athletics/hospitality. The original request was for $6,200. The remaining $2,200 will be considered in January for possible approval. Tramel told the committee schools are no longer allowed to pay for hospitality rooms and this money will be used to pay for trophies and supplies for the hospitality rooms.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Pryor Creek Budget and Personnel Committee is 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Pryor City Hall.
