Pelivan Transit making changes

Pelivan Transit is a non-profit corporation that is owned and operated by Grand Gateway Economic Development Association headquartered in Big Cabin. Pelivan provides rural public transportation services to the cities and surrounding areas of Claremore, Grove, Miami, Owasso, Pryor and Vinita with local, state and federal grants. The Pelivan Transit System provided 158,170 passenger rides and traveled 835,745 revenue miles last year from October 2007 to September 2008. Pelivan currently employs 65 people and operates a fleet of 51 vehicles that includes ADA 4-passenger mini-vans, 14-passenger vans, ADA 11-passenger micro-buses, ADA 19-passenger commuter buses, and an ADA 22-passenger vintage trolley replica bus.

Pelivan Transit will be making the following progressive changes to their system becoming effective Jan. 4, 2009:

New Work Routes:

New work routes will begin operation on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 from Pryor to the Will Rogers Downs Casino near Claremore on Highway 20 and the Cherokee Casino in Catoosa. These new routes are sponsored by grants from the Cherokee Nation and federal grant (JARC – Jobs Access Reverse Commute) secured through Grand Gateway. They are designed to accommodate employment and entertainment transportation needs. Debbie McGlasson, Pelivan Transit Director, has been planning these routes with Michael Lynn and Rob Endicott with the Cherokee Nation as well as Darrell Adrian and Emily Bushyhead with Cherokee Nation Enterprises. These routes will accommodate staggered shift times for the first and second shifts and will also include a midnight route. and ride locations. The fares for this employment transportation will be $2 one way.

The bus is open to the

public depending on seating

availability.
