Commissioner seeks new engineer

Darrell Yoder, commissioner for Mayes County District 2, is looking for a new engineering firm.

Mayes County Commissioners voted Monday to terminate the county’s contracts with Wingfield Engineering.

Yoder said Wingfield is the engineer for three of District 2’s improvement projects: South Elliott Street, a Brushy Creek bridge and Pryor Creek bridge along 9th Street.

“They have just been doing me a lousy job,” Yoder stated in the meeting before requesting his contract be terminated.

Yoder said Wingfield has shown a lack of performance of duties. Yoder said he has been trying since July to get Wingfield to address issues with the City of Pryor. He added the engineering company has not been returning any of his phone calls.

Commissioner Alva Martin, District 1, said he’s not sure what is going on with the engineer. Martin said he feels Wingfield may be facing financial problems.

“They’re not answering to anybody,” Martin said. “They used to do a good job.”

Yoder said he is required to give Wingfield a 30-day notice of termination. Commissioners voted to turn the termination over to the office of the district attorney.

• Locust Grove Fire Department will buy a new fire truck with a custom pumping system from Ferrara Fire Apparatus. Ferrara was the lowest bidder, submitting a cost of $244,980 for the outfitted truck. Other bidders were Chief Fire & Safety, who bid $295,114 for a 2010 engine and $280,114 for a 2009 model, Pierce Manufacturing, who bid $270,706 and Jon’s Mid America Fire Apparatus, $279,315.

• District 1 received a reimbursement of $15,930.93 from the City of Pryor for road oil. District 1 chipped and sealed streets for the city after signing an interlocal agreement.

• The commissioners appropriated fuel tax funds. District 1 received $91,630.66. A total of $57,586.33 went to District 2. District 3 received $57,586.32.
