Senior nutrition centers closing

Community Action Resource & Development is seeing the closure of two Mayes County senior nutrition sites.

Karol May, executive director of C.A.R.D., said congregate and home delivered meal services in Locust Grove and Chouteau will be suspended, effective Nov. 6. This suspension is due to the drastic state funding cuts. Senior citizens nutrition projects are experiencing the closures of senior centers statewide.

C.A.R.D. is seeking local funds from service organizations to continue delivering meals to frail and low income senior citizens in the Locust Grove and Chouteau area. If an individual or a service organization would like to sponsor an elderly client with weekly or monthly meals, please call Sharla or Becky at (918) 341-5000.

C.A.R.D. intends to assist these centers in searching for funds and to reopen if funding is replenished in the future.

“We would like to extend our sincere apology to Locust Grove and Chouteau senior citizens for the interruption of meal services,” May said.
