Chouteau school bond fails, Spavinaw elects trustee

The $11.4 million bond for Chouteau-Mazie Schools failed Tuesday.

Thirty-one percent of the vote was cast for the first proposal, leaving 69 percent of the Chouteau School district voting nay. The project list included a new gym for Mazie School, a new high school, an addition to the Early Childhood building and other improvements to the district.

The second part of the bond covered transportation upgrades, including three new school buses. Sixty-one percent of the voters cast against the proposal, and 38 percent voted for it.

Seven hundred eighty persons voted on the first proposal, while 786 voted on the transportation proposal.

In the Town of Spavinaw, citizens elected Arlene Gay to fill an unexpired term on the board of trustees. Gay took 55 percent of the vote over opponent Rosie Sasser, who had 45 percent. Vote counts were 46 for Gay and 37 for Sasser.
